My fifth grade students learned the importance of circuits in science this year.
Students were given a battery, wire and a mini-lightbulb to experiement with.
Students were put into small groups to work together to see what they could figure out, and to see which group could get their light bulb to light up first!
After experimenting in groups, students soon found out that if the wires were not stripped, electricity would not flow. They understood that the rubber around the wire, was an insulator. Students also found out that if the circuit created was broken, or disconnected in any way, that the light bulb would not light up correctly!
