Angle Shape Sort Ginger Harn

I chose to do the Georgia Performance Task "Angle Shape Sort".  I used the idea of using straws and sorting from the geometry webinar.

Reason for the Seasons

After watching Eugenio's webinar, my class created the Reason for the Seasons flip chart. The class is building a collection of resources to take with them to sixth grade next year. This project was perfect since
it covers a sixth grade earth science standard.

Here they are taking notes from the one of the videos.

Here's the finished project!

Fraction Cookie Performance Task Revisited

I decided to revisit the Fraction Cookie Performance Task with my students.  In this task, the students needed to make improper fractions and mixed numbers.  I extended this task by teaching them how to simplify some of their fractions.  This was a preview for 5th grade next year.

Electricity ~ Trial and Error!

My fifth grade students learned the importance of circuits in science this year.
Students were given a battery, wire and a mini-lightbulb to experiement with.

Students were put into small groups to work together to see what they could figure out, and to see which group could get their light bulb to light up first!

After experimenting in groups, students soon found out that if the wires were not stripped, electricity would not flow. They understood that the rubber around the wire, was an insulator. Students also found out that if the circuit created was broken, or disconnected in any way, that the light bulb would not light up correctly!

An ARRAY of fun learning fractions.  The students like having the visuals of the tile squares to make equivalent fractions and explore with arrays. See the videos and pictures below...

STUDENTS MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT SPACE ACTIVITIES
Eugenio Gant

My students and I had fun with the phases of the moon.  The students enjoyed completing the activities.  I am so proud of them.  After completing all of the activities, the students were able to name and identify all eight phases of the moon.

Season Flipbook Webinar Pictures-Ginger Harn

My students are working hard on their season flipbooks.  I loved the ideas I saw on the webinar and thought my students needed a reveiw.
